This week I’ll be much better at commenting, I promise. Things are calming down again.
Sunday and we left Exeter via Lyme Regis where Shaun suggested we pop back to Alice’s Bear Shop, a shop we found last year and loved – this year H got her photo taken with Rikey Austin who owns the bear shop – it has a Teddy Bear Hospital at the back where all your toys can be mended. A lovely lovely store.
The next time we go away anywhere we’ll be substituting Motorway Services for National Trust places – The Vyne in Basingstoke is a little bit out-of-the-way but so much better when you need to stretch your legs (and cheaper) – Tolkein inspired and worth a nosey.
Monday Shaun and I were off work but spent the entire day lying on the settee reading and relaxing. We needed to recover after a week off…
Tuesday, back to work and the second Kim Deal solo single had arrived!
Wednesday and H was moved up to the next class at swimming – talk about a surprise – we knew it was happening but didn’t realise it’d be on Wednesday. There isn’t actually any space for her in the next class up so we’ll be in our class until there is – but still, three and three-quarters and she’s got this – I’m so proud of her – and she’s done it on her own without me helping. Apparently Stage 1 is similar to the Duckling 3 badge which she has also been awarded!
Thursday night = knitting night. I needed that pint. My sock is coming on slowly….
The absence of a Friday photo is due to nothing much happening. We drove up to Mayfield Lavender which is about a mile or so up the road to find it has reopened and the lavender is coming on – AND there’s a festival in early July too. Wonderful! You can wander around the lavender fields (you’re not allowed to pick) and so many people have photos taken there. It’s a really great place and one we love going back to – we’ve been there since before H was born.
H loves going there too. That and the fields were covered in dandelion clocks and partially grown (yet refreshingly aromatic) lavender. Roll on July when the fields will be a mass of purple-y loveliness and I’ll be spending (too much) money in the shop!
We stopped in Bristol – I lived there for almost four years in the 90s, so showed H a few things… the obligatory bridge shot.
On Monday we stopped at Wookey Hole. The mirror maze was excellent!
Tuesday it poured down all day – bad weather. We drove to A la Ronde near Exmouth and found it fabulous.
Wednesday we drove to Torquay but got back in time for some kite flying at Devon Cliffs beach. H helped me and loved it.
Thursday we went to the Devon County Show with Rachel and family (and it was Rachel’s birthday) – and we came across a stand for the Co-Operative Funeral Care. The one to the rear is Japanese themed, while to the front a motorbike sidecar hearse. Indeed.
We left Devon Cliffs and spent most of a day at Bicton Park Botanical Gardens – there are loads of things to do and a fabulous play area. H and I were dancing when this was taken.
Friday and Saturday night we stayed at Rachel’s, and on Saturday we drove to Drogo Castle – England’s newest castle which is currently suffering from terrible water damage. I saw a programme about it a year or so ago, so to see the restoration work was interesting. The gardens are excellent and there’s tons of bluebells. H loved it!
and I’m rubbish, I don’t get time to comment anywhere else as I keep going out, leaving me virtually no internet ‘me’ time. At all.
Sunday – I don’t think we did much, we can’t remember. I got two pictures of H though.
Monday – back to work, and nothing of note.
Tuesday – Work again, though I was extremely excited as the reissue of ‘Last Splash’ by The Breeders came in stock, and there was my thank you in black and white. It feels proper now. Nearly time to see them live! Pilates was in the evening, then off to Hannah’s house of Caterpillar Tales where I’ve set her up as self hosted (we’ve just got to transfer a lot of large images over then it’s done!)
Wednesday – a glorious sunny day, no playgroup in the morning, we lazed around before meeting up with friends for soft play, then H’s swimming lesson which ended in tears (she slipped over), before we walked home through the park.
Thursday – back to work, I had a meeting in Shoreditch which I was really annoyed to find had been placed in Zone 1 so they can make some money from those of us with 2-5 travelcards (it used to be Zone 2) – though taking the Overground from Clapham Junction was good and quick. Later on Karen and I went to the Moshi Monsters 5th Birthday Party at their HQ which was LOADS of fun and also where I had the psychic reading.
Friday – tired. Work. Home. H had her first night without a pull-up which went okay. We’re letting her decide what she wants to do, and last night she wanted a pull up again so we’ll see how it goes. For some reason this prevented me from sleeping properly. I’m a weirdo.
Saturday – a blogger event at Blackwood Forest for Forest Holidays – I fell in love with the place and would love to stay there. I just checked and a weekend before Christmas would be £480… tempting. The cabins were really warm with under-floor heating which is what appeals the most… now to look for deals…
Was yet again busy. We did stop, we properly stopped and we needed it. We also drank a lot more than we usually would, so probably needed to stop even more. There’s more photos to be added, I’m just putting this up to get it in in time.
Sunday – St Phil’s car boot sale was on, where I spent around £9 and got loads – including three DVDs. We’ve not tried Finding Nemo yet (I’m wary), but Shrek was fine (and cheap). We’re seeing the Dreamworks vs Pixar differences – Dreamworks seem to enjoy adding a pop song which dates quickly to a film, whereas Pixar pick a not-so-modern song and it doesn’t date as it was never modern. Or something. We had a nice lunch at The Sun in Carshalton where H drew a picture of daddy. It has been entered in their monthly competition…
the likeness is uncanny.
Monday – a day at work, my pilates class tonight as I brought it forward. Nothing to report other than this sign. God I hate comic sans, talk about me wanting to kick it over. I may be pre-menstrual.
Tuesday – my birthday, a celebration of the end of yet another year of my life. A morning reading and an afternoon eating and drinking, before Shaun picked up H early and we had a bit of family time together which was nice – we don’t get that apart from at weekends, which is why….
Wednesday – was so great – Shaun took the day off too, so H then had her daddy play time – she never asks me to play and build things, that’s his role in her life – before heading for a walk to the ponds to feed the ducks, popping into a few local shops and going to soft play then H’s swimming lesson, before walking back home via the park, getting home and heading out for another meal at At Verde’s in Carshalton.
Thursday – back to work. Nothing to report.
Friday – another day at work, nothing interesting again.
Saturday – we lazed around in the morning (not doing Saturday morning classes makes such a difference when you have a busy week) before heading to H’s friends party in the afternoon. We had loads of fun and caught up with lots of friends – and only realised the time when it really was getting late and it only felt like we’d been there an hour. The best bit of the party was the kids all playing in one room (they were being cocoons) while us adults chatted in the next room. H was really withdrawn for the first half hour or so but came round… is my child going to be the moody one at parties?
Sunday – H was still not right so we missed our NCT trip to Godstone Farm and lazed around the house. This also meant a good clean of the cupboards and a chance to show off the Marmite Archive. They’re all unopened.
Monday – I was at work, Shaun looked after H and they made big progress on #operationdollshouse – but ran out of orange for the tiles. This meant I had to make a trip the following day to Poundland which was lucky as I found some orange paper which matched (it was from there anyway) plus…
Tuesday – a load of textiles that would look great on the floor.
Wednesday – a busy one, we had our NCT playgroup in the morning and a really good chat with friends, then we popped over to the Caterpillar Tales house (which is an amazing house!) where H got to hang out with all the kids – then Jo of 3 Kids and a Gluestick joined us with even more kids and more play. I need a Tuff Spot. We then found out where H would be starting school in September after her swimming lesson. Wednesdays are getting silly, we’re so busy (but I love it). It was good meeting the homeschool lot too, as you get more of an idea, and it really does appeal. We’ll see how we get on from September… H had a play on the piano and was really quite tuneful.
Thursday – A mad day at work, I headed out of the office for a meeting and missed the storm by minutes. That night was knitting at The Sun where fine music was played and things were knitted. They had these hung behind us on the wall and I thought they looked pretty.
Friday – a non-day. I bought some socks in Tiger and got them home, to find that I’d actually bought three socks – ‘two for you and one for the washing machine’. Sigh. I bought three more on Friday. I now have some new great socks and none for the washing machine.
Saturday – a day doing ‘stuff’. Got a haircut, bought some things for my birthday and found a shop (Hardy’s) which sells vintage sweets. Sherbert dip-dabs have plastic tops these days?! We finished the day watching Cinderella with home made pizza and some shloer. A nice relaxing day too.
pre-party cycle in the garden before meltdown and tears
H&M love. Brazil/Brasil love

A proper band t-shirt for a 3 year old (see previous rant). To be puked on later when the bug started.
Mary Poppins = I get some work done
She’s well enough to cut some cakes. We’ve lost our cookie cutters! I can’t find them anywhere, at all. It’s driving me mad.
We made do with Easter ones instead.
I thought I’d give The Gallery a go for the first time this week, and this was the photo which came to mind when I saw the theme was happy. It’s not that we’re all miserable, sad types. H has the most infectious giggle, I’ve no idea where it comes from, a proper tummy giggle which gives her the hiccups every time. This was taken last August in Kew when we took a break and sat in the sun. It was a beautiful warm day, and looking outside right now it looks like maybe today will be the start of more beautiful warm days… we’ll see..
(as a sidenote, this picture also reminded me she has this fab top, I wish I’d been dressed as great as this when I was three)
Easter Sunday, and G teaches H about Star Wars.
Monday – cousins playing Mr Potato Head on the iPad
Tuesday – an urgent trip to the dentist and a hospital referral
Wednesday – after swimming we went to Halfords to get H’s new bike. She’s tall for 3.5 years old…
Thursday – it snowed. H wanted to catch it on her tongue.
Friday – Joe at work lent me two books to read. I’m mid-way through the British Sea Power book and it’s excellent.
Saturday – us three at London Zoo
