H is a bookworm. She loves reading, she’ll sit in the chair and grab books and surround herself with them and look at the pictures and entertain herself for ages – which is great. She really loves to look at books and tell us what she can see.

With that, we’ve gone a bit book crazy. We’d set rules when she was young, no tv characters – and then of course Peppa Pig entered our lives… Shaun bought her some books from The Book People (who come to his work a few times a year), and within a week she knew exactly which book was which, and could select the one she wanted read to her… so over time we’ve added a few more to the collection, and this morning the Peppa Pig: Nursery Rhymes and Songs Picture Book and CD arrived. You get all the classic nursery rhymes as well as a few Peppa Pig related songs – including The Bing Bong Song! The CD only lasts for 13 minutes (more than enough!) and each song is repeated – but for a 2 year old like H who loves Peppa Pig it was possibly the best thing ever – when the theme tune came on and was coming out of our stereo she couldn’t quite get her head around it, so we sat down and looked at the pictures and sung the songs. The ‘Birdy Birdy Woof Woof’ song also went down extremely well…

I suspect over time it will probably drive us parents completely up the wall, but for now H loves it – it’s her favourite and hearing the songs and singing along is possibly her new most favourite thing, ever.

A book collection isn’t complete without some classics – and somehow we stumbled onto the fact Topsy and Tim exist again! Another Book People find, Shaun picked up the Topsy and Tim, 12 books at his work, and again within 2-3 days H could identify each book. Looking on Amazon last night there’s also a few set to be released later this year and early next year – fantastic. From what I can gather the books are re-done, and in some cases updated – for example, I don’t ever remember ‘Topsy and Tim Go Green’. We found H was getting a bit ahead of herself too, and likes running out onto the (fortunately quiet) road – not good. Fortunately Topsy and Tim Safety First exists, which helps reinforce the safety issues we’re bringing into H’s everyday life – and even better it’s Topsy and Tim, so H relates to them. It’s definitely already helping…
