Oh we love Mayfield Lavender. We go there for fresh air and a run over the hill even when the lavender isn’t there. It’s space, fresh air, where you can breathe. H has been there before she could crawl as it’s just up the road from us.
Saturday and Sunday were an annual lavender fair – so opportunities to have a pilates class, a massage, your photos taken or just wander around the fields taking in the lavender – it’s out in full bloom now, three different types and it smells great.
We went yesterday, H and I racing each other up each section of lavender until we reached the top of the hill exhausted. After that we walked around for a while before sitting in the pagoda-esque wooden area in the middle of the main field.
We went as the tennis started – after hearing how busy it was we took a risk – you could guarantee the tennis would be a long match if you waited, and if you went you might miss the first set (we did). The risk was a good one – we got parked straight away and were in the fields in no time.
A quick stop in the shop for some lavender for home (and some biscuits) and we still made it back in time for Andy Murray to pick up the trophy, so everyone wins! The lavender will stay this way until late August/early September, so if you’re nearby go and check it out – it’s free!
