There’s a Christmas Songs meme doing the rounds. As I’m so low-key here I’m unlikely to ever get tagged, so sod it, I’m going to do it anyway. I’m tagging anyone who is reading this who also is never likely to get tagged who wants to do it.

See, we’re a house of music (I’ve worked in music since 1992) – sure, of late it’s been Justin Fletcher, Cbeebies, Peppa Pig and so on, but our regular music makes it in there, and now we’re two weeks off the big day (H’s third one) and it’s time to concentrate on the music that matters. Truly, though, I’ll never feel Christmassy until I hear Berwick Kaler shout “ME BABBiES! ME BAIRNS!” at the York Pantomime (alas, not this year), so instead I’ll make do with these.

In no particular order…
Shonen Knife – Space Christmas.

Ahh, my treasured Seminal Twang singles, and this one appeared, the coolest fuzziest song about Christmas we’d heard in a long time.

Cocteau Twins – Winter Wonderland/Frosty The Snowman.

It feels like Christmas when I hear these songs in shopping centres. Last year in Australia I heard them loads, and yep, it felt like Christmas in the blazing hot sun. The fact it’s the Cocteaus doing these songs should be utterly ridiculous, but it works. Oh it works.

The Waitresses – Christmas Wrapping

Another ‘it’s Christmas when I hear it in the supermarket’ kind of moment, a 1981 classic from a band who I only know two songs by (this one and ‘I Know What Boys Like’)

The Dandy Warhols – Little Drummer Boy

It’s just perfect for them, and it works. That’s all. I can’t help but sing along to it. Not so sure about the dude in the pants though.

Half Man Half Biscuit – All I Want for Christmas is a Dukla Prague Away Kit

I say no more. I feel festive.
