Every time I go back to York I head to a The Little Apple Bookshop on High Petergate (Little Apple Bookshop, 13 High Petergate, York, YO1 7EN), just opposite The York Arms which is packed full of classic children’s books and a whole wall of Dick Bruna postcards. For as long as I can remember (even before she was born) I’d put these postcards on a coloured Ikea frame and hang them up around the house. I love the simplicity of Dick Bruna’s work, and indeed H has grown to love Miffy.
Last night after an Ikea trip, I had two more frames to fill – this time H helped. The delight on her face when she saw the postcards “wowww! WOWWWW!” – we chose one frame with pictures of animals/creatures (Walrus, Cat, Butterfly, Crane) and one with Miffy characters, and she’s so delighted – not yet on the walls, but heading that way soon. Ikea do the perfect frames for these – really nice simple colours which match Dick Bruna’s really nice simple colours too.
